Assign, transfer, and process audio from a recorder (DLP)
After you connect a recorder with data to the LENA computer, the recorder assignment screen appears. You can choose an existing child or add a new child, and then assign the recording.
Assigning the recording to a child initiates audio transfer (also called upload).
Processing begins automatically after transfer is complete.
1. Connect the recorder and wait for the DLP Assignment window.

- See the DLP serial number.
- Check the recording Start Time and End Time against your records.
Note: If this DLP is connecting to the software for the first time, you will first add the device to your database.
2. Assign the recording.
If the child appears in the list, highlight his/her name and click Assign.

Notes:
- If you pre-assigned the DLP to a child, that child will be automatically highlighted. Click Assign to confirm.
- If you did not pre-assign and also have not selected "Unassign DLP when transfer completes" in your Settings menu, the last child for whom a file was uploaded from this DLP will be highlighted. Highlight the correct child instead, and then click Assign.
- Otherwise, no child will be automatically highlighted. Choose the proper child from the list.
If this recording is for a new child, select Add Child.
Enter the child's name and correct birth date. You can edit the Child ID and Group affiliation in Client Manager later. Click OK.
With the new child now highlighted in the main list, click Assign.

Users whose computers are set to display dates in DD-MM-YYYY format should avoid using this method of adding new children, as it may contribute to date flipping (months and days being reversed in the birth date, resulting in ages calculated from incorrect dates).
Opt instead to pre-enter all children directly from Client Manager, in order to always select an existing child.
Confirm child and birth date. This is the last chance you have to be sure the birth date is correct, for correct algorithm selection!

3. Select/confirm the time zone for the recording, if applicable.
(This step may be turned on or off in Settings.)

4. Data transfer begins.
You will see Transferring in the Status column, and a reminder to leave the DLP connected during transfer. Transfer takes 2-3 minutes.
After transfer, the DLP is empty. You do not need to manually purge the DLP.

5. Data processing begins.
You will see Processing in the Status column. Processing takes around 2 to 4 hours for one full 16-hour file.
During file processing, you may disconnect your DLP to prepare it for the next use. It is empty and ready to be charged using the wall charger.
You can also queue up additional recordings.
If you are running an earlier version of LENA Pro, your files will process one at a time, in sequence. With LENA Pro version 3.4 (or later), the software will simultaneously process files up to the number of logical cores on your computer. (The default setting is that number minus 1 to leave some system resources available for other needs.) Any uploaded files beyond that number will queue for processing and be picked up as soon as resources are available.

6. Processing is complete.
You will see Finished in the Status column for each file as it finishes processing.
You may now view the LENA Reports or export the data for further analysis.
