Reprocess a misassigned recording to the correct child

Although a file can be reassigned via Report List, best practice is to reprocess a misassigned file.  Reprocessing permits selection of the proper age-related algorithms, and also ensures that all of your exports will reflect the correct assignment.

This step applies to the full version and pilot version of LENA Pro.

Users running the graduate student version of LENA Pro may complete through Step 6, then contact LENA support to remove the original, incorrectly processed file(s).

Back up your data before proceeding.

These instructions have you working directly within the LENA data directory, which is inherently risky.  Get help from an experienced technician if you are not confident working with the files in the directory.

1. Find the recording filenames that need to be reprocessed.

  1. Export a daily CSV covering the participants and dates for the misassigned files.
  2. Note in a new column which child each misassigned file should belong to.
  3. You will use the filenames in the Processing_File columns to find and copy the files that need reassigning.

Check the filenames carefully to be sure you will reassign the correct file.

  • The last section of the filename indicates the recorder serial number.
  • The first two sections indicate the date and time of the upload.

If the misassignment created a file overlap, you may not be able to see the desired filename in the daily CSV!  Export an hourly CSV instead.

2. Close LENA.

3. Load files into processing folder.

For each audio file that needs reprocessing:

  1. Search C:\ProgramData\LENA\storage\childdata for the .upl file that matches the Processing_File name from the CSV (substitute .upl for the .its extension).
  2. Copy (don't move) that file to C:\ProgramData\LENA\storage\audioxfer.
  3. Increment the middle MMDDSS portion of the filename by one second. For example, if the file is 20170727_155621_008441.upl, change it to 20170727_155622_008441.upl.

Repeat for all relevant files.

4. Launch LENA.

Each file will load for processing, as if transferring from a recorder.  It will still be assigned to the wrong child.

5. Reassign and process.

For each file, you will receive an overlap warning with options.

  1. Click Change.
  2. Assign the file to the correct child (use the filename displayed at the top of the assignment window, and select the correct child based on your CSV notes).

Repeat for all overlap warnings.

Each file will now process for the correct child, with the algorithms that correspond to that child's DOB.

6. When processing completes, check results.

Verify that:

  • the reports now show for the correct child(ren)
  • the results can be exported for the correct child(ren)

LENA Pro Grad student version - stop here.  Contact LENA support to complete file removal.

7. Remove data from original, wrong child(ren).

Create a temporary, fake child.  Make the last name 000 or similar so the child will sort to the top of the list in the next steps.

For each reprocessed file:

  1. In Report List View for the wrong child, right-click on the filename that should be removed, and choose Reassign...
  2. Assign the file to the fake child.
  3. Repeat for all files that need to be removed.  If any overlap warnings come up, click Ignore.
  4. Select the fake child in Client Manager, and choose Delete.  This will remove the fake child and all data associated to that fake child.
