Error on launch: "Failed to connect to LenaService"

This error typically indicates a problem with the registry, and is most commonly seen on new installations with old data where the data move was executed incorrectly.

The most common cause is that the user dropped the old computer’s entire C:\ProgramData\LENA directory into C:\ProgramData on the new computer. It’s critical to instead let LENA set up the \LENA folder on the new computer, and that folder must not be replaced or altered.

If this is what occurred, and assuming you have the full data directory safely backed up somewhere else, then try the following:

  1. Close LENA.
  2. Delete C:\ProgramData\LENA.
  3. Launch LENA. This step creates a properly situated data folder. Don’t do anything else in LENA.
  4. Close LENA.
  5. Delete all subfolders of C:\ProgramData\LENA, but leave the top-level LENA folder in place.
  6. Paste in the corresponding subfolders (but not \LENA) from the old computer.
  7. Launch LENA.

If that doesn’t work, then you may need to uninstall and reinstall LENA, and then follow steps 3-7 to bring in the data correctly.

If the problem is occurring on a brand new installation with no data, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the program.
