Change the recorder mode setting
Recorders loaded with firmware version 2.17.3 and higher have two available recording modes:
- Single day - Captures up to 16 hours of a child's language environment before requiring transfer to LENA software.
- Multiday - Captures up to 4 separate 16-hour recordings before requiring transfer to LENA software.
- All recordings must belong to the same child/participant.
- For use with LENA SP and LENA Home only - not with LENA Pro - however, LENA Pro allows you to toggle the setting.
- Battery must be charged between recordings.
- A recorder set for multiday data capture will show a tiny "key" icon on the LCD screen.
This article outlines the steps for using LENA Pro to change the setting.
First, ensure that the recorder does not contain data.
Any data on the recorder will be permanently erased in this process! If you want the data, transfer it for processing first.
1. Go to the Settings screen, General tab.

2. Click Test DLP.
This brings up the Digital Language Processor Test screen. (Ignore the on-screen instructions, as we are not actually testing the recorder.)

3. Connect the recorder to the computer.
Click OK on the message indicating the device does not contain data.

4. Click the recording mode button to set to Single Day or Multiday.
You will see the current mode displayed in the recorder description area (highlighted).
The mode button allows you to toggle between the two modes.

5. See the change reflected in the device description.

6. Disconnect the recorder.
Current firmware will add a key icon to the display when the recorder is set to multiday. You may want to physically mark the multiday recorder with a sticker or similar to differentiate it from single day recorders.
